How can Music and Sound be the “Hidden Therapist” in Psychedelic Healing? with Shane Aspegren

  • Felt, not just heard: Somatic sound facilitation puts the bowls on the body rather than across the room. Shane works with titration and edges the way any trauma-informed somatic practitioner would, because when vibration is moving through you, the experience is not something you can politely tune out.
  • Why the most valuable place for sound in psychedelic care may be on either side of the session rather than inside it. Shane uses gentle, non-ordinary states created by sound alone as preparation, so that a dysregulated nervous system meets the medicine already knowing what safety feels like.
  • How relationship becomes the actual mechanism. Shane traces both the wound and the repair back to relationship, which is why ONDO’s new integration circle at Pala Medicine is built as an ongoing community rather than a single debrief the day after.

Too Curious MDs

We are two and too curious physicians applying the lens of Narrative Medicine, exploring Integrative practices and psychedelic treatment in healthcare. Together with our guests we weave new learnings from stories, expertise, and the sciences. With the wisdom from holistic, alternative, and conventional medicine, we’are here to challenge the status quo!!!!We are curious about the connectivity and complexity between diverse fields of knowledge as they relate to consciousness, chronic illness, mental health, resilience, and beyond! Stories of illness in the context of caring for patients in psychedelic medicine, what emerges and what we can learn as health care changes.

Founder of ONDO

Shane Aspegren is a somatic sound facilitator, embodied integration coach, and the founder of ONDO, a Los Angeles based holistic sound practice. A musician and multidisciplinary artist for more than thirty years, he has recorded and toured internationally as a drummer and percussionist, including work with Bright Eyes, and co-founded the band The Berg Sans Nipple. He grew up in Nebraska, spent years living in Europe and then Hong Kong, and now works out of Los Angeles.

His practice brings together more than a decade of specialized training in vibrational sound, trauma-informed somatic work, therapeutic yoga and breath, and support for non-ordinary states. He collaborates with Dr. Suraiya Rahman at Pala Medicine in Pasadena as the somatic sound facilitator for ketamine sessions, leads group sound baths and one-on-one sessions, and is launching an ongoing somatic integration circle. The name ONDO comes from the Esperanto word for wave.
